Matron Of Ravens Cosplay for Halloween 2024
The next two sets of Featured Photos for Halloween 2024 are from our recent annual event, the Cape Cod Cosplay Photoshoot Weekend, held as always at the Southfleet Motor Inn. The next set will be of ldcos618, the co-manager of the inn that is always our home base for the event, but this set is of makermage as the Matron of Ravens from the animated series Vox Machina. Not that you could tell either of the next two as they both have full face masks.
When she told me what costume she brought, my first thought was to shoot it at the Jenny Lind Tower, an isolated stone tower sitting in the brush at the edge of Atlantic Coast. Once we set up that shoot, I realized that I could also shoot it at a large stone outcrop in the middle of a sand garden in front of the inn after sunset, using a pair of flash units with colored gels. So, I shot both. Shooting along with me at the tower was photographer Kevin of kbrophystudio, who brought the lighting tool of the weekend, a collapsible reflector. Shooting with the late afternoon sun bouncing off the gold foil side of the reflector made for excellent light.
The later shoot in the dark looked exactly like I had envisioned, except for the autofocus issues of trying to take pictures in near total darkness of a costume almost completely black. Again, Kevin came in clutch with a small flashlight to help the camera find its focus.
