MKX Kombat Pack 2 DLC Packs A Mostly Tame Punch

The fighting game Mortal Kombat X has been doing amazing business. The game has a growing fan base, and is making strides in the fighting game community, so people have been eagerly waiting to see what is coming, and the latest is MKX Kombat Pack 2.

I think fighting games have it pretty easy when it comes to DLC. Whenever you add a new character to a fighting game, you never really get a huge negative response. And usually people are very excited, mildly excited or — at worst — indifferent. Kombat Pack 1 was pretty good. We got horror movie iconic killer Jason Voorhees and sci-fi hunter Predator added to the MK roster.

However for MKX Kombat Pack 2 — well, first off let’s look at who they chose to add to the game. Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, newish character Triborg, Bo Rai Cho, and the Xenomorph from the Alien franchise. This is one of the first times I have to say I was very disappointed with the choices for a Kombat Pack.

Honestly I feel Leatherface is a wasted slot. We already have Jason Voorhees… so why add Leatherface? I hardly remember The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Even so, what can you possibly do for this character or what role could he do that Jason does not already do? I feel this could have been a character like Sindel, Kabal, Jade, or Rain. Hell, Freddy Kruger would have been a better choice. That way we can finally get Freddy vs. Jason in an excellent fighting game. This character is unwanted.

Next up Triborg. This is probably my favorite of Kombat Pack 2. I wanted the cyborgs Sektor and Cyrax in MKX because I always thought they were awesome. With the new variations system I felt they could become one character — and that is exactly what happened. We are basically getting three characters in one. Triborg introduces a new cyborg who I guess could be Cyborg Smoke or not, but also change into Cyrax and Sektor in the trailer. Not much else is known on it but I am most excited to see what this new character can do.

Bo Rai Cho… honestly the same thing I said about Leatherface can be said here too. I hardly remember Bo Rai Cho. Or his playstyle. All I remember was his stupid farting fire fatality and throw up move… Again another wasted slot that could have been filled by anyone else.

Lastly the Xenomorph. Who doesn’t love Aliens? Honestly one of my favorite movies. These savage killers are movie history icons. And in the MKX world a lot of possibilities can come of this. In the trailer we have one pop out of Baraka then later show to be a slightly bigger Xenomorph with arm blades similar to Baraka. This can be insanely cool if done right.

It leads me to think maybe that will be how its variations are handled. Can you imagine a Reptile-style Xenomorph who can turn invisible, and shoot its acid? Or maybe a Goro-style Xenomorph who is hulking in size and has four clawed beefy arms? Or we could honestly get a Pred-Alien. I know I try to forget Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem too, but the Pred-Alien was honestly the only cool thing about it. And seeing how Predator is already in the game, it wouldn’t be that farfetched of an idea, and we can have a legit Alien vs. Predator match now!

Ultimately, this DLC release is a mixed bag. While Triborg and the Xenomorph peak my interest Bo Rai Cho and Leatherface are poor choices that again could have been for better characters. Overall I’ll have to hold my opinions until I see them in action, so I’ll be eagerly awaiting to see what both Triborg and the Xenomorph can do.
