This is the second in a three-part series looking back at some of the most amazing cosplays I got a chance to shoot in 2013. I was a very busy year for me for cons and cosplay photography. I was privileged to get to go to cosplay powerhouse cons like Katsucon, Megacon and DragonCon for the first time this year, and managed to take photos of some truly mind-blowing cosplayers and costumes.
Like yesterday’s retrospective of genderbent and crossplay photos, the list is purely subjective, in some cases based on the best shot of a great cosplay, and in some cases an average shot of something truly outstanding.
The 12 best cosplay shots of the guys I took in 2013 are:

Raymond Ramos is known for his amazing Blade cosplay, but when he debuted his movie-version Bane he won 1st Place at the Boston Comic Con contest. He even built a voice changer into the mask!

This cosplay of Isaac, the protagonist from the game Dead Space, starts a wave of great male cosplayers shot at Dragon Con.

This was an OMG momemt for me. Eternity was a character in the first comic book I read, back in the late 1960s.

Another Marvel Comics cosmic character, Adam Warlock.

There were a bunch of Ruby Rhods at Dragon Con and they were all good, but this guy nailed it.

It is almost unfair for someone like Terry Terman to cosplay, he is so massive. But his Orion from the New Gods was a surprise and a great job.

There was a number of cosplay options of Darkstone Ross to choose from, but the winner had to be Powdered Toast Man.

You have to admire someone who cosplays a character portrayed in a few seconds of a fake trailer in a movie by an actor playing a character. This is Tugg Speedman from the trailer for Scorcher VI: Global Meltdown, at the beginning of Tropic Thunder.

Mark Hyrullian is best know for his armored Link, or his Baird from Gears of War, but he also knocked it out of the park with Edward Kenway.

Nearly everyone recognized Toby Markham when he cosplayed Loki at Dragon Con. Almost nobody did when he cosplayed this amazing Cyberman.

I didn’t like the recent John Carter movie, but I did like how Jim Gillespie nailed the cosplay.

Thomas DePetrillo is well known for his incredible. giant Bumblebee cosplay. But I had to choose Overkill, as it is his own concept and design, start to finish.
