PAX East 2020 Sunday Gallery by Zephyrlynk Productions
Finally we have the last gallery of hall shots of cosplayers from PAX East 2020 with the Sunday gallery from Jake of Zephyrlynk Productions. Because it is the last gallery from this year’s event, I will indulge in some commentary. Probably should have done that on my Sunday gallery.
PAX East has changed. Not drastically, but significantly. That is undoubtedly due in large part to the changes in the way large video game companies go about promotion and marketing. Blizzard, Sony, Microsoft and other companies all have their own events now, most of them located on the West Coast. While many of them still exhibit at PAX West, it is likely that is due to the lower cost of travel to Seattle from California, where much of the development studios for these game companies are still located.
So PAX East has shifted to an even greater emphasis on smaller and independent game studios, and more tabletop games. For us, with our emphasis on cosplay at conventions, that means the nature of the cosplay has changed as well.
But it doesn’t seem to have negatively affected the amount of cosplay. If anything, the variety of sources the cosplayers draw from has increased. I remember the days of 2015 and 2016 when League of Legends dominated the cosplay at PAX East in a way no game did before or since. In this gallery alone we see the game series Final Fantasy, the rock band Gwar, the anime Konosuba, the game Overwatch, and the game League of Legends. All in the first five sets of cosplayers.
PAX East will continue to be a dominant force in the nerd convention scene in Boston — that won’t change. But what that will look like in another five years is unknown and I am very interested to see it.
Among the cosplayers in this gallery are brieowth, Humongous Fungus Of Urungus, meikasama, meggueggu, _horsestable_, jennidoru, ATK PWR, manzinat0r, Justice Van Cho, nixnaxed, sunnirice, Glamazon_Painforest_Cosplay, fallencosplayer, techno.magi, _tarobun, Goblin Kettle Cosplay, bunniikitty, gnattysparkles, jacksafereffort, flowerbricosplay, Super Savage, and many more.
We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
