Poison Ivy Retrospective Gallery On Naked Gardening Day
It’s May 1, and that means there are piles of possible days that I could choose from to tie into a retrospective gallery of cosplay photos. Recognizing May Day I could have chosen any character that is from any country that uses May 1 to honor and celebrate workers. It is also Beltane, a traditional Gaelic Celtic holiday that marks the beginning of Summer, so any Irish, Manx or Scottish character would be appropriate.
But it is also World Naked Gardening Day and the best embodiment (pun intended) of both of those qualifiers is DC’s own plant mom, Poison Ivy.
While the easy joke is that Poison Ivy has often been portrayed as wearing absolutely nothing but some strategically placed leaves and vines, she also has had enough canon costume and character designs to fit any level of comfort with how much skin a cosplayers wishes to show. From full ball gowns with long trains to almost non-existent leaf bikinis, Poison Ivy has a costume that works for everyone — and even more so if you include fan art designs and other non-canon creations.
In this gallery alone, among the many cosplayers that wear multiple versions of Poison Ivy’s costumes is Closet Geekery, in everything from a party dress that would be appropriate for almost any high school prom to a leaf-covered bikini that barely covers anything — in the same convention.
But there is no denying that Poison Ivy is one of DC’s go-to flesh-baring femme fatales, which makes her the perfect choice for this ridiculous made-up holiday.
