PopCult Anime Con 2023 Sunday Gallery Part 2
One of the main reasons anyone goes to any convention is to meet up with friends they might not have seen in a year. This is true of small cons like last weekend’s PopCult Anime Con which is just now glimpsing the edges of 1,000 attendees on the near horizon, and of this weekend’s titanic, 4-plus-day, 80,000+ attendee insanity that is Dragon Con in Atlanta. Nothing exemplifies that better than the linked image below. Friends all cosplaying from the anime Zombie Land Saga wanted to get a group shot, and after much finagling I managed to get all seven of them into the frame.
On Sunday, the Idol Showcase, while a morning event, started at 11 a.m., so there are plenty of idols in this final PopCult 2023 gallery as well. And as was the case all weekend, while the cosplay skews heavily toward anime, there are all kinds of fandoms represented, from Crowley of the Netflix series Good Omens to the videogame franchise Kingdom Hearts to someone actually cosplaying as Chuck E. Cheese.
In advance of the Formal Ball starting, the con had someone performing in the Eden Vale ballroom to entertain the waiting crowd. I didn’t get a chance to see who it was, but kudos to them for transposing Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” into a slow tempo, minor key emo ballad. That was quite an interesting cap to my weekend, since I started breaking down the studio right after the ball began.
