PopCult Anime Con 2024 Saturday Gallery Part 1

Despite being on the same weekend this year as AnimeNYC, PopCult Anime Con not only seemed to hold its own for attendance, but based on my observations and other attendees’ comments, it looks like it was a bit busier than last year. Like last year, I’ll have three Saturday and two Sunday galleries, but each gallery will have about 10 percent more photos this time around.

Now in its third year at the Westin Waltham hotel, PopCult seems to have settled into the venue. There are always some hiccups that con management has to deal with at any convention, but the top brass seemed to have fewer of those this year than in the past two (not to imply there were a lot in prior years). Like the past two years, we had a studio space in the large staging area foyer in front of the Eden Vale ballroom and across from the Registration room. Since we were also once again the official cosplay photo service for the convention, that high-traffic location worked really well. That is, except when I was trying to have a conversation when any of the large ballroom events were happening. PopCult crowds get pretty excited and loud.

Smaller anime cons have an even stronger focus on anime cosplay than their larger siblings, but PopCult might be even more anime specific. Not that anime is the only type of cosplay — popular games like Cult of the Lamb and Minecraft are in here as is the insanity that is the animated series Aqua Teen Hunger Force. But, unlike Anime Boston where the crowds are so much larger the ratio of people cosplaying outside of anime is higher, PopCult cosplayers in general seem to stick to anime.

I couldn’t find my older black backdrop and the gray one and the mottled brown one both are finally damaged, so I bought a new black backdrop. My apologies for the fold lines — I should have washed it first and used different clamps. Next time, lessons learned, etc.

Cosplayers in this first of three Saturday galleries include silverfalconcosplay, skrinesis, _dannylion_, Mink the Satyr Cosplay, x106eevee, ndiaz.cos, akirajk27, marcot1009, the1985ronin, deerprincesscosplay, makeupmermaidcosplay, bunsonbunscosplay, molmies, colossal.manatee, koinuhira, fearleadr, cosplaysbyolive, saurianwarriorcosplay, lostsanitycosplays, romimew411, theunworthycosplayer, mistykristicosplay, and many more.
