PopCult Anime Con 2024 Saturday Gallery Part 2
The morning events in the Eden Vale ballroom at the Westin Waltham hotel at this past weekend’s PopCult Anime Con were pretty quiet — a block of time for masquerade performance practice and then lightsaber training classes. After noon, that changed as crowds started to fill the staging area where our studio was set up, in anticipation of the Cosplay Deathmatch at 1 p.m. That was good for me. The morning featured a pretty steady stream of cosplayers at the studio, but that block from noon to 1 p.m. was hopping as I was able to call out for photos to a packed space.
Once the Deathmatch event started, however, the crowd thinned out, leaving me time to enjoy a delicious staff lunch of pizza. I never did get the name of the place the green room staffers got the pizza from, but it was quite good. It being a Saturday, however, I still had quite a few cosplayers come by to get their pictures taken.
My one constant issue all con was the flash I was using for the blue-gel key light. I broke the battery door latch last year when I was first using my new collapsible umbrella softbox. The softbox has a clamp to hold a flash in place, and I screwed it down too tight one time and it broke the latch. Since then, I’ve used gaff tape to hold the door closed, but the spring on the hinge is so strong it pulls the tape free every 1-2 hours or so. Once this weekend it popped so suddenly that the batteries flew out onto the floor. I might try a Velcro strap next time.
Among the cosplayers in this second Saturday gallery are westengale, laserboycosplay, cosplayinstilletos, the_fluffy_sheep_cosplay, otak_luuu, chrlssl__, leafysheep_cos, shihoscos, nicofanniche, _luv.caroline_, paintedladycosplay, elementaltori, apocalypse.unicorn, vahlance, busyasabeecosplay, savagry7, oyasubunny, kiracadabra, rebel_princess_cosplay, c0splaygirlz, lazcosplays, makermage, viqueens_cosplays, trashqueencosplay, mitsu_cosplays_, wandandshuriken.handh, liztalkcosplay, balletwitchery, and many more.
