PopCult Anime Con 2024 Saturday Gallery Part 3

Later Saturday afternoon at PopCult Anime Con in the Westin Waltham hotel started with the crowds being entirely somewhere other than near me. I did take some photos, but the hour between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. was almost free of cosplayers outside the Eden Vale ballroom. Hanging with me at the studio space, as he was all weekend in between his scheduled shoots, was Anthony of FlashCordPhoto. We speculated, along with various non-cosplay friends and con staffers that stopped by, that maybe it was everyone having a late lunch or early dinner. There wasn’t any panel or event that seemed to be as hugely popular as the ones scheduled for the ballroom next to us (it was the biggest event space, after all).

The real reason may have been given in a conversation on Sunday — that person said that Saturday afternoon they saw huge crowds of cosplayers outside. That included a couple of big meetups of cosplayers from popular franchises. It was a bit humid, but not very hot, so it was a good time to get out, it seems. Anthony left before the Masquerade got started, but the quality hang time continued as I was joined for the rest of the afternoon by christopherrobinwetherell.

By 5 p.m., that crowd dynamic flipped completely, as crowds gathered to wait for the doors to the ballroom to open for seating for the Masquerade, which started at 6 p.m. Since seating began at 5:30 p.m., I had a short window in which to grab a bunch of cosplayers queuing up and get photos. That led to some excitement, as one of the largest groups of the weekend rushed in for photos as the line for seating started moving in the middle of the shoot.

I stayed through the first hour of the Masquerade before packing up the parts of the studio I wanted to take home with me. That means I got to hear and see the amazing performance by makeupmermaidcos (photos in Gallery 1) cosplaying as a glamorous evening gown version of a Minecraft creeper, singing Radiohead’s Creep while stalking a Steve cosplayer around the ballroom.

Cosplayers in this final Saturday gallery include lady.lizard.cosplay, yushicos, kaotikai, ezzbeezz, tjlight03, saphssquatch, kels.cosplay, daddyspookums, the1985ronin, kaminaricos, Flukeoffate Cosplay, jack.the.st.ripper, animesuckx, peachie_medicine, Moonie Warrior Cosplay, argenys_maria, hannibananicosplay, polarwildcatstudios, ashesdaphoenix, idk_callmesiri, romimew411, kawaiikaeru, bunsonbunscosplay, taytimecosplay, oyasubunny, kiracadabra, sincerelysylph, busyasabeecosplay, rebel_princess_cosplay, vahlance, seekeroflight13, and many more.
