Queen City Kamikaze 2018 Gallery Part 1

I discovered the one-day convention Queen City Kamikaze last year, although a search through our records shows Nerd Caliber had covered back in 2011. The event has been going on for years, held at Manchester Memorial High School in Manchester, NH. The bulk of the volunteer staff are high school students, but if you think that means it is not run professionally, you are mistaken.

QCK packs into one day everything you would think to find in any other con — panels, workshops, contests and game shows, a cosplay contest and a masquerade. It also has a vendor area that fills up the gymnasium, and that was where we had our table promoting the upcoming Cosplay And Photography Expo. Outside the vendor area, the hallways that wrapped around the central courtyard had old-fashioned TV carts set up with real CRT TVs and retro game consoles for anyone to stop and play. Those hallways met at the cafeteria seating area, in which a bunch of school organizations were set up selling food like hot dogs, grilled cheese, pizza and mac & cheese. One of the great benefits of QCK is that food and drink runs about $1 to $1.50 per item — a welcome relief from con center or hotel food costs.
