RI Anime Con 2024 Saturday by Wonderllama Photo
The third weekend in June was mighty busy this year. In Providence, the annual Pride Parade took place on Saturday, along with the 2nd annual Rhode Island Anime Con (RIAC) at the Rhode Island Convention Center. Fan Expo Boston was 2 months earlier than usual and ran the same weekend. With Rodney in Boston, I set up at RIAC and took photos with some wonderful cosplayers. I was joined at the Nerd Caliber table with our good friend and occasional contributor, Panda Valentine, who was great company and helped wrangle cosplayers.
RIAC is a decent show, though it sits squarely in the shadow of New England’s biggest anime con, Anime Boston. There was a decent group of artists, vendors, and celebrities. There were quite a few cosplayers, though overall fewer than I expected at an anime con. Everyone I spoke with was enjoying the show and had some terrific costumes, from huge current animated shows like Hazbin Hotel to the usual assortment of old school manga, anime, and animation characters.
