Sakura Bomb! Tune In Tokyo Music – September 2012
Pleated skirts, knee socks, cardigans, and hipster glasses… sounds like someone’s fantasy right? Well, actually it was the Back to School Night theme of Tune in Tokyo’s Sakura Bomb event in Little Tokyo, CA at 2nd Street & Jazz bar and Club. Every couple of months the DJ’s of Tune in Tokyo host such themed events all around Los Angeles. The events always boast A-list bands that are well known within the geek community. They are known for bringing a great mix of up-and-coming bands that are guaranteed to provide attendees with a slew of amazing entertainment.
This event headlined such notables as Stephanie Yanez, who is most well-known for winning Anime Expo Idol, and providing her voice for the online community Tinier-me. We were able to catch up with Stephanie to find out how she began performing at the Tune in Tokyo events and what makes her want to come back to many of their events as both as a special guest and regular attendee. Not only has she traveled to Japan recently, but she confirmed with us that her next performance will be in New Zealand! Be sure to check out www.stephanieyanez.com for tour dates and to download her songs via iTunes!
Throughout the night there were a mix of local cosplayers that we have met from previous events, as well as some out-of-town visitors that commented they didn’t normally go to events such as these, but were glad they showed up that night. This was especially true after hearing the San Diego based band Jetpacks and Laser Guns set. Their sound is a cross between indie rock and 80’s rock, with a touch of trance. They have the type of sound that will definitely take you on a journey up above the dance floor and back again. We took some time to interview them on camera as well to find out more about these four men and why their sound is so contagious.
