Smaller Walker Stalker Boston Still Brings the Horror Names
Summer convention season is winding down, and I was in attendance at one of Boston’s more niche cons this past weekend, Walker Stalker Con Boston.
Walker Stalker was located at Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel and is run by Fan Fest, the people who are in charge of the Heroes & Villains conventions throughout the U.S., and much like Heroes & Villains this is a super streamlined show.
Walker Stalker’s main focus is on fan fellowship and commerce, especially with the endless popularity of The Walking Dead franchise.
There was no shortage of representations for the television and graphic novel IPs, with companies like local developer Disruptor Beam promoting their newest game based off the franchise called The Walking Dead: March To War. The newest game from the company that also has the rights to mobile games for Star Trek and Game of Thrones is a new kind of story-based multiplayer strategy game. Players will be forced to build alliances and compete against rivals in a desperate struggle for scarce resources. The title is slated for Android and IOS, with no announced release date.
Guests were a who’s who of TWD actors, such as Chandler Riggs, Khary Payton, Michael Cudlitz and Lennie James. But Walker Stalker isn’t just for Walking Dead fans, there were also some very prominent Evil Dead franchise guests this year; Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi.
This was not a cosplay heavy convention, but what was there showcased a variety of make-up costuming talent and not just for TWD, there were some amazing costumes from franchises like Resident Evil as well.
As Gregg Snider noted in his photo gallery (that’s one of his images as the featured photo above), the event was smaller than in previous years. An event in 2017 in Boston wasn’t even on the Walker Stalker Con website until a few months ago. So that late announcement may have led to a smaller number of guests and vendors.
For my first time, Walker Stalker was still pretty cool. I got to meet a few of my favorite actors and see some awesome cosplay. The staff were really helpful and professional, and I never felt like they weren’t doing enough.
