The Age of Brass: Steampunk World’s Fair 2011 Pictorial and Review
Steampunk World’s Fair 2011 is a grand celebration of Victorian (and Edwardian) science fiction that took place in May 20th-May 22nd at Somerset, New Jersey. The organizers did a great job putting this convention together. The staff was not only friendly and knowledgeable but I rarely saw long lines near the registration tables.200-310 vce Getting registered was quick and easy. And no matter what subgenre of retro-futurism you were into; there was something for everyone.
There was a huge vendor presence with plenty of literature and fashion items to explore. In fact, most of the places you can sit to eat or see a show in the convention, there was a salesperson waiting to tempt your wallet. For those seeking the best medicine, they had comedians of the highest order, such as Uncle Yo and A Count Named Slick Brass. The convention did a tremendous good job in picking musical talents from all sorts of styles; from steamgoth bands like Platform One to Frenchy and The Punk to steampunk rapper Professor Elemental.
For those who had intellectual appetites, the SPWF did not disappoint them. Ay-leen The Peacemaker and Jaymee Goh did an awesome panel about steampunk multiculturalism. Personally, SY0-401 vceI thought Goh’s story of how she became interested in steampunk, despite the treatment of minorities during the 19th century, was a highlight in their panel. Many of the contributors of The Steampunk Bible, including co-author S.J. Chambers, took part in a panel that discussed about the book as well as the definitions of what steampunk is. There was a reading of The Meowmorphosis by Quirk Books as well as a library for readers to peruse about.
Overall, I had a great time. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. My only criticism of the convention that it was very overcrowded, but that’s not a bad thing is it? Hallways and panels were crowded with those discovering new friends and catching up with old ones. The only thing I would suggest to improve it for next year is just a bigger space! For those that are interested in seeing more of what occurred there, feel free to check out our pictorial below! El final.
