‘The Big Bang Theory’ – Dorkiest (And Coolest) Guest Stars

If most fans of “The Big Bang Theory” are truly honest with themselves, they will realize that the main reason they are watching the show is to laugh at Sheldon’s antics. That being said, this sitcom has boasted quite the vibrant cast over the years, including several excellent regulars, recurring characters and one-off guest stars.

The only bad thing about the amazing talent of the sitcom’s guest stars is that they never remain on the show long enough. Of course, as GetDirectTV.org points out, viewers can catch the brief contributions of such actors at alternative times with the help of portable viewing devices. As you explore your favorite “Big Bang” reruns, be sure to keep an eye out for the following amazing guest stars:

Bob Newhart

The ultimate figure in television comedy, it’s only natural that Bob Newhart would make an appearance on one of today’s most loved sitcoms. Playing Professor Proton, otherwise known as Sheldon’s idol, Newhart showed that aging does not have to negatively impact comedic ability. Bob Newhart on “The Big Bang Theory” was called as “funny as ever.”

Wil Wheaton

“Star Trek” fans were pleased to learn of Wil Wheaton’s presence on “The Big Bang Theory.” This time, instead of playing an annoying kid, Wheaton would be playing himself, as the bad guy. Known for his portrayal of Wesley Crusher in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” Wheaton became an antagonist on “Big Bang,” making a point of foiling all of Sheldon’s clever schemes.

Katee Sackhoff

Technically, the character “Battlestar Galactica” actress Katee Sackhoff plays on “The Big Bang Theory” is just a figment of Howard’s imagination. But that doesn’t mean he has full control over her, as he finds out while trying to pleasure himself. But the main purpose of these fantasies is to give Howard insight into his relationship with Bernadette, and make the amends necessary to keep that relationship going. Although her time on the show was brief, the actress set the bar high for all future guest stars.

Ira Flatow

In a guest appearance that only NPR nerds could understand, Science Friday host Ira Flatow showed up on “The Big Bang Theory” to interview Sheldon. This was not your standard guest appearance, as Flatow never actually showed his face on the television screen. Instead, he recorded a voiceover that was then broadcast to Sheldon’s buddies over a transistor radio.

“The Big Bang Theory” continues to remain true to its dorky but lovable audience by featuring guest stars who have already managed to achieve the ultimate in nerd distinction. It is the presence of such guests that makes this show so entertaining season after season.
