DMC Presents: ‘The Fix’ Will Have You In Fits
This is a good week to visit your friendly neighborhood comic shop, because there are just so many good titles out this week! Coming home with my stack of comics it was tough choosing which ones to read first and which one to review for the column. Do I choose the amazing Black Panther #1 by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Brian Stelfreeze? The beautiful Empress #1 by Mark Millar and Stuart Immonen? The further adventures of Poe Dameron by Charles Soule and Phil Noto? The Harley Quinn April Fools Special by Rob Williams and Jim Lee? I could go on and on this week! But I decided to go with a book that might get overlooked on a week with such heavy hitters: The Fix #1 by Nick Spencer and Steve Lieber from Image Comics.
Spencer are Lieber are the creative team behind The Superior Foes of Spider-Man, a short-lived series that featured C- and D-list Spider-Man villains trying to make a name for themselves. I loved that series because it was fun watching these bumbling idiots try to make it big while staying out of the cross hairs of Spider-Man. I’m happy to say that The Fix is in the same vein as Superior Foes.
Roy and Mac are two guys that enjoy breaking the law but don’t want to go to jail so they figure the best way to avoid jail time is to become cops. They figure cops can beat people up, shoot people, park wherever they want and not face punishment. So the duo spend their days on the beat, and in their downtime break whatever laws they can get away with. When we first meet the guys they are robbing a nursing home to get money to pay off a crime lord they owe money to. It only gets crazier from there. I found myself laughing several times at the sheer ridiculousness of these two clowns. Spencer’s dialogue is fast-paced and Lieber packs plenty of jokes into the background. The Fix is well worth your comic dollar.
So today when you’re picking up your Marvel and DC books, grab a copy of The Fix and enjoy a fun ride!
