On January 5, 2013, DC Comics animation block DC Nation returned to the airwaves after months of being on hiatus. For those unfamiliar, DC Nation consist of two shows: Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Young Justice, two animated shorts and a demo of what can be done in real life with super hero powers and abilities; from Batman’s Batarang to Green Arrow’s boxing glove arrow.
Green Lantern: The Animated series started off by featuring a new type of lantern called The Steam Lantern. As I watched this episode, I kept wondering which cosplayer would do this costume at a local convention. Yeah it’s going to happen. Cosplayers are known for getting a jump on the newest and latest costumes. The main character and arguably the greatest Green lantern of them all, Hal Jordan, was transported to a steampunk world and must find his way back to his own world with the help of the Steam Lantern.
I usually don’t care for Green Lantern: The Animated series due to the computer animation but I thought I would give the show another shot due to a storyline I think will pop up soon in which Hal Jordan goes nuts and tries to wipe out the entire Green Lantern Corps. This is just me speculating mind you but I did see in a trailer that Hal Jordon wearing multiple rings and looking like he lost his mind. It looks similar to the Parallax storyline in DC Comics.
Next up is my personal favorite part of DC Nation,YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION. This show is about the young heroes of the DC Universe. Reluctantly called “sidekicks,” they form a covert black ops group to do assignments that the Justice League were unable to do, due to constantly being in the spotlight. Young Justice: Invasion takes place 5 years after the first season with Nightwing leading the team that now has a huge membership. The latest episode fails to disappoint with it’s plot twists and mysteries.
This is also the episode that was leaked on the net a few months back. It is here we are introduced to the Black Beetle as dubbed by Wonder Girl. A villain similar to the new hero and member of the team Blue Beetle. This mysterious partner of The Light will be the invaders and main protagonists of the show but it looks like there will be other villains that the Young Justice crew will be up against as a trailer revealed such villains as Rose, daughter of Deathstroke aka Slade Wilson in a fight with Lagoon Boy, Miss Martian’s current boyfriend.
