Top Christmas Games 2012 – Games To Suit Everyone On Your List

With the continued rise of online games, the idea of getting a physical disc that you have to put into a machine is bound to end up in the dusty bin of archaic technology – something our kids will laugh about as their robot chauffeurs jet them through hyperspace to Mars for the latest intergalactic space auction. Or whatever it is those kids will get up to in the future.

Luckily, for the time being, a game is still something that can be unwrapped on Christmas day. Here are some of the top choices for Christmas 2012.

The massively successful Call of Duty franchise returns this year with the hotly anticipated Black Ops 2 (available on all platforms). With a storyline that sees the game project into the future for the first time, Black Ops 2 is packed with awesome new features: 8 player co-op zombie mode, control over unmanned vehicles, and its ever-improving multiplayer.

And for the FPS fan, there’s a plethora of other games like Call of Duty arriving, like Halo 4 (Xbox 360) and Borderlands 2 (PC/PS3/Xbox 360). A unique feature is offered in Medal of Honor Warfighter (all platforms): while the action remains classic first-person shooter, the story revealed in the cut scenes between missions reveals the home life of one of the protagonists before and after the conflict, adding a human element we rarely get to see in these games.

For anyone who has enjoyed the world of pro wrestling at any point in their life, there’s WWE ’13 (PS3/Xbox 360/Wii), which brings back some of the federation’s best-loved characters – including Eddie Guerrero, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Trish Status – alongside today’s superstars, such as The Rock and John Cena. And who doesn’t enjoy delivering a steel chair to the head every now and again?

Whether you like tracking down your targets by executing meticulously crafted plans or through insane acrobatics and swirling swords, either Hitman: Absolution (PC/PS3/Xbox 360) or Assassin’s Creed III (all platforms) is sure to sate your bloodlust.

For anyone thinking of getting the new Nintendo console, the Wii U, there’s a whole new style of gameplay to be experienced. The best looking of the lot is currently ZombiU (Wii U). This game is based in London during a zombie apocalypse, and the developers have tried to make as realistic as possible. Death in the game means the actual death of your character: the player gains control of a new person, and has to track down the zombie-fied version of their old character to get their equipment back!

Christmas is, of course, always about the kids. A good choice for the little ones is the new game based on the hit cartoon Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d you steal our garbage 3DS (DS/3DS). Alternatively, LEGO Lord of the Rings (all platforms) is a fun and accessible way to introduce the kids to Tolkein’s magical universe.
