Umbrella Academy Cosplay Retrospective On Umbrella Cover Day
My wacky international holiday calendar says today is Umbrella Cover Day. I don’t know if that is to honor those things that protect our umbrellas when not in use, or to honor how well umbrellas cover us in the rain. But I do know that the second season of the smash hit The Umbrella Academy drops on Netflix on July 31. So what better way to celebrate those two facts than with a gallery of cosplayers portraying various characters from The Umbrella Academy.
The photos were taken in just the last 15 months, and there are enough for a small gallery — an impressive number for a time period in which the latter quarter was completely empty of conventions. That’s a testament to just how big an impression the show had on its fans. The comic book series of the same name written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá was a big hit for Dark Horse Comics and won an Eisner Award, so it’s no surprise how much anticipation there was for the series, and Netflix luckily nailed it. What was a surprise to me over the past year was how popular Hazel and Cha-Cha would be as cosplays.
When the Season 2 date was announced we posted a gallery of The Umbrella Academy cosplayers that Luis of Crash: The Photos photographed at Anime Boston 2019, and at the time I mentioned how much I loved his photos of Ailuro Cosplay as No. 5 with Dolores. Now you can see mine from PortConMaine 2019 in the gallery below,
Cosplayers in this gallery include erasernoir, CospLai by Lai, jagscosplay, CutiePie4173, Ailuro Cosplay, and many more.
We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
To view the entire gallery, just click on the image below. If you are pictured in any of our galleries, feel free to download the images and use them non-commercially on social media, with appropriate credit.
