When Wrex and Mordin Campaigned For Presidency – NYCC 2012

This year at NYCC, we had the opportunity to meet up with the ladies at Propped Up Creations, who were wearing their Mass Effect costumes and campaigning for the Presidency! Photo Gallery below was taken by Rodney Brown aka First Person Shooter!

Where did the idea of merging Mass Effect with politics come from?

(Alyssa) Wrex: Originally, I wanted to do the monocle version of Wrex. (http://media.photobucket.com/image/recent/SlidellofOlde/1263437094517.jpg) But bringing in the election was all Reith’s idea!

(Reith) Mordin: It’s a big election year, and I tend to use humor as a coping mechanism.

(A) Wrex: We were trying to figure out a way to navigate the Javits Center floor without needing multiple handlers. Wrex’s costume requires at least one person nearby at all times (once it’s on, it’s impossible for me to take it off without assistance).

(R) Mordin: And Mordin’s heels are not made for NYC streets. So we landed on a suit-and-tie version of our characters. And then we thought of the giveaway… campaign buttons.

(A) Wrex: It took off from there. Slogans, signs, bowties!

What was the reception of your cosplay at NYCC?

(A) Wrex: We brought a total of 250 buttons as giveaways and they went in under three hours. Everyone wanted one–even the Malfoys.

Lucius and Draco are played by Aziza and Caitlin and Narcissa is played by Kristin.

(R) Mordin: Our posters were double sided. The front just had the Wrex/Mordin 2186, but on the back of mine I had Alyssa write our version of Mordin’s famous last words. When I would turn the sign to the back I would usually hear someone nearby burst into tears. It was fantastic.

What would you say are the political stance of each of your characters?

(A) Wrex: We’re running on the same ticket, but let’s be honest: Wrex is the serious one of the bunch.

(R) Mordin: Mordin would be the wacky Joe Bidan style VP, good for some laughs and a little embarrassment. Then he would break out the mechs.

(A) Wrex: He definitely has some odd ideas for a krogan–he supports the sciences, the arts, and is fighting to end the clan infighting. So he’s running on a left-leaning ticket. But let’s be truthful here; when he gets the throne, it’s going to be a military dictatorship.

(R) Mordin: Mordin would be all about getting the job done, no matter the cost. But the seriousness would be peppered with grains of inter-species relations advice and Gilbert and Sullivan.

What would be your first law or cause you would work on once you were sworn into office?

(A) Wrex: Wrex would do pretty much anything to cure the genophage. After that was fixed, I’m pretty sure he would spend the rest of his term making little Wrexes.

(R) Mordin: I think Mordin would be all about universal healthcare *ba dum tish*
