Wicked Comic Con 2025 Cosplay Gallery 1

Wicked Comic Con did something for its fourth year that everyone expected and something no one expected.

Expected was the return to a Spring date from last year’s date of mid-August. Completely unexpected was that it went back to a one-day convention like its first year but made attendance completely free. Possibly to make up for it being a single day, Wicked Comic Con just posted on its website that it will have a second one-day convention this year, on Oct. 5. Again, with free attendance.

That free attendance clearly had an effect on the crowds this past Saturday — not just in size, as the convention has always had crowds that fill the available space, but in diversity of attendees. There seemed to me to be many more casual attendees curious about what was going on than in previous years, versus a more dedicated fan attendee base that is typical of any fandom-focused convention.

I was just as busy as I was last year, taking enough photos for three full galleries. One trend I noticed early in the morning was the preponderance of Hatsune Miku cosplays. It turns out that there was a meetup planned at Boston Common that day, before the crowd of Mikus went to see COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing at AMC Boston Common during its short, limited US run. I was informed of that by a cosplayer doing one of the wildest mashups imaginable, Hatsune Miku x Dr. Robotnik. You’ll have to wait for the next gallery to see that one.

Cosplayers in this first of three galleries include sarkazm2112, millie_halprin, animesuckx, peachie_medicine, ndiaz.cos, silverfalconcosplay, colossal.manatee, radioofhorror, sheusedtobem, ine, lostsanitycosplays, cyrusleeok_, cardboardgremlin, merlinofstory, missnikkimuffin, lex_yey, lorendacosplayer, tallandwalking_, and many more.
