You Can See Dune Two Days Early For Free!

I wish I was not part of Nerd Caliber for just a couple of hours, so I could take advantage of this opportunity to get free tickets to an early screening of the upcoming science fiction film Dune. How much do I like the book Dune?

Over the decades I have read two hardbound copies until they fell apart in my hands. In high school it became a running joke among my friends for them to shout out at me across a crowded hallway, “Hey Rodney, how many times have you read Dune?!” Once they started getting tired of the correct answer (which would have been six or seven at that time) I began to increase the number each time. By the time I graduated it was into the millions (not really of course — probably closer to two dozen).

So to say I am excited for this new movie version of one of the true masterpieces of science fiction literature would be an understatement. But I can’t take advantage of this offer, being a part of Nerd Caliber and all. You all, however, certainly can. The marketing people have these details to tell you:

Visit http://wbtickets.com/NERDCAILDUNE to RSVP to the Advance Screening of DUNE on Wednesday, October 20th at AMC Boston Common at 7:00 p.m. DUNE, the all-new larger-than-life movie that follows young Paul Atreides on the ultimate hero’s journey as he must face his fears to discover his destiny and save his people, opens in theaters and streams on HBO Max on October 22nd. Please note: Seating is not guaranteed and on a first-come, first-serve basis.

We have a total of 75 admit-2 tickets, so click that link fast! And remember to stick to the theater’s mask rules: “Masks are required for everyone regardless of Vaccination Status. Masks can be removed in the Auditoriums when enjoying Food & Beverages.”

The various adaptations in film and on television have stuck to the plot about a noble boy with a strange power struggling against his family’s enemies and a treacherous empire, and mostly ignored the brilliant world building of the far future, and the deeply complex political, religious and ecological aspects of the book. In the hands of brilliant director Denis Villeneuve I expect that error to be corrected — with beauty and style.

Again, click on that link above right away to claim your admit-2 ticket! Then check out the latest trailer below (warning, it is pretty spoilery if you haven’t read the book or seen any adaptation.).
